HOMER LAUGHLIN'S RIVIERA, POTTERY
(mid-late 1930s-1948)

Another of Rheads designs, Riviera pottery, was based off the Century line. Century's an ivory colored line that is found plain or with decals in over 70 treatments, including the popular Mexican themed decaled lines of the 30's and early 40s.

Riviera was made in Green, Mauve, Red, and Yellow, with occasional pieces of Cobalt and Turquoise turning up every now and then. Since Riviera is a lighter weight pottery than Fiesta, it tends to have suffered much more through the ages, and is especially notorious for chips on its underside.

None of the Riviera was marked, although you'll find the Ivory Century line marked on the bottom with the standard HLCo cryptic dating system.

Riviera production ran for a maximum of 10 years (Fiestas length of run before its restyling was over 30 years - three times as long). The bottom line is Riviera has already been rare for quite some time.

The complete line consits of a mere 25 pieces. Sadly, gone are the days from college in the hills of southern Ohio where I would commonly find Riviera plates at the thrift stores and flea markets for a quarter.
